Henry Whittemore Library Ebooks: Overdrive Ebooks

Overdrive eBook FAQ

1.       Where do I go to find and borrow library eBooks and Audiobooks?

Go to the Digital Media Catalog website at http://digital.minlib.net and browse or search for titles.

2.       Which eBook Reader should I get?

Check out Consumer Reports for reviews on eReaders and tablets. You can borrow the library iPad to download an ebook or audiobook.

3.       What eBook readers can I use to read the library’s eBooks?

Our eBooks are compatible with most major readers, tablets, computers and devices. Please go to http:www. Overdrive.com/drc to see a list of compatible devices.

4.       What do I need to check out an eBook?

You need your library card number and PIN, which is the same as your regular library account. If you know your library card number, but have forgotten your PIN, you can have your PIN reset at the library or here: https://library.minlib.net/patroninfo.

5.       Why do you recommend signing into “My Account” before I start searching?

We recommend signing into your account first because it makes the checkout process much smoother.

6.       How many eBooks can I have out at a time?

You can have up to 5 items out at a time. You can also have up to 5 requests in at a time. If you have reached your limit of items checked out you can return a book you have finished. Or you can access books in the public domain by scrolling to the bottom of the page and click the Additional eBooks Always Available button, as these books do not count against your limit.

7.       How long can I borrow eBooks for?

eBooks can be borrowed for 7 days, 14 days, or 21 days. You can select the loan period when you are checking out the eBook out.

8.       What happens when the loan period on the eBook ends?

It will just stop working, you do not need to return it and there are never any late fees. If you want to borrow it again, you can do so right away, if it is available. If it is not available, you can request it.

9.       How do I see what eBooks I have checked out or what eBooks I have requested?

Go to http://digital.minlib.net and click “Sign In” in the upper right corner of the screen.

10.   How do I find an eBook that I can checkout right now?

In the upper right hand corner of the book jacked there is a book icon. If it is black you can check it out right now, if it is grey you will need to place a request on it. Also, look for a button that reads “Show me only titles with copies available”. Or use the advanced search.

11.   When I look at the details about an ebook, I see there are several different format options. How do I know what books will work on my eReader or tablet?

If you have a Kindle, you can use the Kindle format.

If you have a Nook, Sony Reader or Kobo you can use EPUB or PDF format eBooks.

If you have an iPad/iPhone/iPod Touch, Android, Blackberry, or Windows Phone 7 you can use the EPUB eBooks.

12.   How can I get more help?

Visit http://help.overdrive.com or ask for help at the library.
