Introduction

The Black Lives Matter Movement was started in 2013 by Alicia Garza, Patrisse Cullors, and Opal Tometi in in response to the acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer, George Zimmerman. The Black Lives Matter Movement continues today to challenge white supremacy and police violence against black people.
