Technical Services

The Technical Services Department strives to record, label, and have displayed in the Minuteman Library Network (MLN) “bibliographical” descriptions of newly acquired information resources as promptly as possible.    These sources or works are also catalogued and enumerated in the international bibliographical database, OCLC, to establish our holdings and facilitate interlibrary lending for our users in teaching and research, as well as contributing to scholarly communication with libraries and users beyond our immediate purview.

These descriptions are formulated in accordance with the prevailing local (MLN), national and international standards (US MARC21 and OCLC) at the time of cataloguing.

The Department serves all Framingham State staff and patrons to clarify “bibliographical” inquiries as they may arise, in the Minuteman catalogue and the OCLC database.  Likewise, the Department responds to external inquiries regarding descriptions and holdings statements of our resources.

The philosophy of the Department is to conduct its operations and dispatch its work for the convenience of the user.
